Nelson: Infrastructure Grants are Big Win for Region
12/19/2023
HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland) announced today more than $2.71 million in grant funding has been awarded to local infrastructure projects.

“This is a big win for our region. I’m proud to work with our local governments and authorities to secure critical infrastructure improvements which will help ensure quality services at a reasonable rate,” Nelson said. “It is a team effort, and I am glad to work with the Senate and other House members to bring these funds home.”

Projects sought by the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County include a belt filter press project at the New Stanton Wastewater Treatment Plant and a sanitary lining project for sewage lines in Hempfield Township. The combination of both projects is more than $1.2 million from the CFA.

Two stormwater projects in Hempfield Township, also representing a more than $1.2 million investment, were funded. They include improvements to a system on Waterbury Drive and Newport Drive in the West Point neighborhood, as well as the construction of a stormwater retention pond on Walden Court in the West Hempfield area.

Also approved was a nearly $300,000 grant to Youngwood Borough for a stormwater upgrade project on Depot Street.

Established in 2004, the CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth.

The grants awarded for these projects are funded through Pennsylvania’s H20 PA and Small Water and Sewer programs. In 2022, more than $300 million in federal funds were directed to the programs by the General Assembly through Act 54 of 2022.

“Our local governments work hard to deliver for residents, it’s great to work with Senator Kim Ward to help support their efforts,” said Nelson. “Key investments like this are precisely why the grant program exists. It’s a big win.”
