Nelson Reacts to State Budget Passage
HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) issued the following statement in response to passage of a $32.7 billion state budget for Fiscal Year 2018-19:

“While this is by no means a perfect budget, the people of Pennsylvania can be satisfied that state government is going to live within its means, without any broad-based tax increases. Money is once again being put into the Rainy Day Fund, which has not been done since the Fiscal Year 2006-07 budget, before the recession. It is incredibly important that we save for the future. This is the fiscally responsible thing to do.

“Overall spending is below the rate of inflation, where most of the increase will go toward funding our state pension obligations, basic education and Pre-K, and providing additional money for the State System of Higher Education, state-related institutions and community colleges.

“This budget also incorporates bonus depreciation for businesses, which is massive to the economy. The commitment by House Republicans to hold the line on taxes and to control spending is paying off for Pennsylvanians.”
