House Passes Nelson Bill to Help Small Businesses
HARRISBURG – The House today approved legislation sponsored by Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) that would permit small businesses to take a full state tax deduction for qualifying purchases.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, but unfortunately they do not receive the same state tax breaks as large corporations,” Nelson said. “My bill would help remedy this situation by putting them on equal footing when making qualifying purchases as outlined in the federal Internal Revenue Code (IRC). Pennsylvania is the only state that handicaps its small businesses in this way.”

House Bill 333 would allow pass-through businesses like subchapter s corporations, limited liability companies and sole proprietors to deduct their reinvestment into machines, company vehicles, facility expansions and equipment at the same level that the IRC currently allows large corporations. More specifically, it will directly benefit farmers, machine shops and construction employers by allowing them to deduct the purchase of new and used equipment and other qualifying purchases.

The bill now does to the Senate for its consideration.

The 57th Legislative District includes the following Westmoreland County communities: the city of Greensburg; the townships of Hempfield (part) and Salem; and the boroughs of Delmont, Hunker, New Stanton, South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg and Youngwood.
