HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) this week was appointed to five House committees for the 2019-20 legislative session.
His committee assignments are Aging and Older Adult Services, Consumer Affairs, Human Services, Labor and Industry, and Policy. As a result of his strong work on the Policy Committee, he will again serve as a deputy chair this session.
“It’s an honor to represent our region on these important committees,” Nelson said. “I will continue to be an active voice for our seniors, small business owners, individuals with disabilities and those struggling to overcome addiction. We had some big wins this last legislative session and worked together with the other representatives in our region to create new opportunities for farmers, encourage expansion in manufacturing and fight for senior citizens’ independence.”
Nelson’s demonstrated commitment to job creation, coupled with his willingness to work in a bipartisan manner, have landed him the Majority Chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Gas and Oil Caucus. The caucus is a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers who value the transformative nature of Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry on job growth, the state’s labor workforce, Pennsylvania ratepayers and our environment. The Democrat chair will be Rep. Ed Neilson (D-Philadelphia).
“It’s a big responsibility, and I look forward to bringing Eagles and Steelers together to create more jobs for all,” Nelson explained. “We need to make sure Pennsylvania doesn’t become just a pass-through state and expand our energy economy in an environmentally balanced way.”
This will be Nelson’s second term as a deputy policy chair. The House Majority Policy Committee travels across the state, conducting hearings and roundtable discussions about important issues to gather testimony and information from key stakeholders.
The 57th Legislative District includes the following Westmoreland County communities: the city of Greensburg; the townships of Hempfield (part) and Salem; and the boroughs of Delmont, Hunker, New Stanton, South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg and Youngwood.
