House Approves Nelson’s Legislation to Improve Prescription Convenience
HARRISBURG – For the second legislative session in a row, the House today passed legislation authored by Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) that would allow consumers to synchronize the refiling of their prescriptions.

“This commonsense bill will help improve convenience for our seniors, busy families and those who have challenges with transportation by making it easier for them to get their prescriptions in one trip,” Nelson said. “Those who do not follow prescribed dosage instructions have higher hospitalization rates. By synchronizing prescriptions, patients are better able to take their meds. Last session, we came close to getting this bill to the governor’s desk. I am hopeful it will make it over the finish line this year.”

House Bill 195 would allow consumers to receive their prescription medications from a pharmacy on the same day each month. It would bar an insurance company from denying coverage for a partial fill of a script in order to facilitation medication synchronization. Thirty-five other states have enacted or introduced similar legislation.

The bill now goes to the Senate for its consideration.

The 57th Legislative District includes the following Westmoreland County communities: the city of Greensburg; the townships of Hempfield (part) and Salem; and the boroughs of Delmont, Hunker, New Stanton, South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg and Youngwood.
